What Claris has said.

  • Studio keeps working until March 15, 2027.
  • After that date, anything still stored in Studio is permanently removed.
  • Studio links stop working, and there are no redirects. That covers form links on your website, in old emails and on printed QR codes.
  • FileMaker, Claris Connect and Claris MCP are not affected.
  • Studio was included in the FileMaker license, and the price doesn't change now that it's going away.

What's actually at stake.

Your FileMaker files aren't touched. What's at stake is whatever lives only in Studio: form responses that never made it into FileMaker, spreadsheets someone built in Studio, and the views and dashboards people open every day.

Studio's table data can be exported to CSV, one table at a time. The views, dashboards and form designs don't come along. Each of those gets rebuilt somewhere or retired.

The decisions are yours, and there's time.

Go through what's in Studio and sort each piece by where it should land.

Nobody uses it anymore. Export the data for the record and let it go. In most businesses this pile is bigger than anyone expects.

Your staff use it. Internal forms and views can often move into FileMaker itself, on the desktop, on FileMaker Go, or in a browser through WebDirect. That keeps everything in the system you already run, with no new vendor.

The public uses it. Forms that customers or applicants fill out need a home on the open web. You can sign up with another form service, or have a small form built beside FileMaker that writes straight into it and runs on accounts in your name. A form service is quicker to set up and brings its own vendor and that vendor's plans. A form you own takes a little longer and stays where you put it.

March 15 is Claris's date. The order you move things in is yours.

A question for whatever replaces it.

Claris says it's ending Studio to concentrate on FileMaker: its AI development tools, and the stability of FileMaker and Connect. That's a reasonable business call. It's also a reminder that anything running on a vendor's service lasts as long as the vendor wants it to. When you choose where each Studio piece goes next, ask who decides when that one ends. Where you can, pick the option where the answer is you.

How I'd help.

Start with the free triage call and walk me through what you have in Studio. If it's a handful of forms, I'll tell you where I'd put each one, and you decide. If Studio is woven into how the business runs, it's a short project: inventory, export, rebuild what you're keeping, and switch the links well before March. Anything I build goes on accounts in your name.

Common questions

Will my FileMaker system stop working?
No. Studio is a separate product. Your FileMaker files, your FileMaker Server or FileMaker Cloud, Claris Connect and Claris MCP keep running.

Can I just export everything?
You can export Studio's table data to CSV, one table at a time. Views, dashboards and form designs don't come with the export. Each one gets rebuilt somewhere else or retired.

Does our license get cheaper now that Studio is gone?
Claris says no. Studio was included in the FileMaker license, and the price doesn't change with its removal.

When should we start?
Early enough to switch the links without a rush. Public form links take longest, because they've been printed, emailed and bookmarked in places you don't control.
